Alan Alda (born Alphonso Joseph D'Abruzzo, January 28, 1936) is an acclaimed American actor, director, writer, and comedian best known for playing Hawkeye Pierce in MAS*H. He has won seven Emmy Awards and three Golden Globes.
Beyond acting, Alda developed a passionate interest in science, hosting PBS's Scientific American Frontiers for eleven years.
He founded the Alan Alda Center for Communicating Science at Stony Brook University, where he serves as Visiting Professor, teaching scientists and doctors to communicate more effectively.
Son of actor Robert Alda and husband of children's author Arlene Alda, he has authored several bestselling books.
