Stephen Edward Ambrose was a prominent American historian and biographer, best known for his works on U.S. Presidents Dwight Eisenhower and Richard Nixon.
He earned his Ph.D. in 1960 from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and rose to tremendous popularity in the 1990s with his World War II narratives.
His books became massive bestsellers, making him a household name.
However, his later years were overshadowed by serious allegations of plagiarism, and concerns about the accuracy of his research continued to surface even after his death, leaving a complicated legacy for an otherwise celebrated historian.
