François Bégaudeau is a French author, screenwriter, and former teacher.
Born in Luçon, he initially played in a punk rock band before pursuing literature.
After teaching in Paris, he published his first novel in 2003.
His third novel, "Entre les murs," won the Prix France Culture/Télérama in 2006.
Bégaudeau has worked as a film critic and columnist for various French media outlets.
He co-wrote and starred in the film adaptation of "Entre les murs," which won the Palme d'Or at Cannes in 2008 and received an Oscar nomination.
The English translation of the book was published in 2009 as "The Class.".
