Terence Hanbury White was born in Bombay to English parents and educated at Cambridge University.
Before becoming a full-time writer, he taught at Stowe.
As a conscientious objector to World War II, White moved to Ireland in 1939, where he spent the remainder of his life.
He is best known for his Arthurian novel sequence, The Once and Future King, which was first published as a complete collection in 1958.
The work combines his literary talents with his philosophical reflections on war, power, and human nature, becoming one of the most influential retellings of the Arthurian legend.
