Pat Barker is an acclaimed English author known for her unflinching exploration of trauma, memory, and survival in fiction.
She first gained recognition with Union Street (1982), a gritty portrayal of working-class women's lives.
Barker's breakthrough came with the Regeneration Trilogy (1991-1995), which blended history and fiction to examine the psychological impact of World War I. The Ghost Road, the trilogy's final installment, won the Booker Prize in 1995.
In recent years, Barker has turned her attention to retelling classical myths from a female perspective, beginning with The Silence of the Girls (2018).
