Thomas Watson (c.
1620-1686) was an English non-conformist Puritan preacher and author known for intense scholarship at Emmanuel College, Cambridge.
He served sixteen years as vicar at St. Stephen's, Walbrook, gaining fame as a gifted preacher.
Watson held strong Presbyterian views but maintained loyalty to the monarchy, resulting in brief imprisonment in 1651 for involvement in a plot to restore Charles II. After ejection for nonconformity following the Restoration, he continued preaching privately, later obtaining license to preach at Crosby House in 1672.
His ministry displayed remarkable breadth of knowledge across multiple disciplines.
He retired to Barnston, Essex, dying suddenly while praying in 1686.
