Paul Edward Theroux is an American travel writer and novelist born in 1941.
His most celebrated work is The Great Railway Bazaar (1975), documenting his epic train journey across multiple continents from Great Britain through Asia and back via Russia.
While renowned for travelogues, Theroux has published numerous fiction works, including The Mosquito Coast, which won the 1981 James Tait Black Memorial Prize and was adapted into film.
His travel writing career spans from 1973 to at least 2018.
He is father to documentary filmmaker Louis Theroux and Marcel Theroux, brother to Alexander and Peter, and uncle to actor Justin Theroux.
