Fiona Shaw was born in London in 1964 and spent much of her childhood near the Thames as the eldest of three sisters.
She studied literature at the Universities of York and Sussex, earning a PhD focused on poet Elizabeth Bishop.
Shaw has authored a memoir and four novels, alongside academic roles as a Royal Literary Fund writing fellow at the Universities of York and Sheffield.
She lives in York with her partner and two daughters, and enjoys cycling, reading, growing vegetables, and collecting films.
She is currently working on her fifth novel.
