Meera Syal
Meera Syal MBE, born Feroza Syal on 27 June 1961 in Essington, near Wolverhampton, is a multitalented British Indian figure celebrated as a comedienne, writer, playwright, singer, journalist, and actress.
Her parents, originally from Punjab, emigrated to Britain from New Delhi, and Syal grew up navigating dual cultural identities — an experience that deeply informs her creative work.
She has become one of the UK's most recognised and respected Indian personalities, known for both her literary contributions and screen performances.
In recognition of her significant cultural contributions, she was awarded the MBE in the 1997 New Year's Honours List.
