Ramona Emerson is a Diné (Navajo) writer and filmmaker from Tohatchi, New Mexico.
She holds a bachelor's degree in Media Arts from the University of New Mexico and an MFA in Creative Writing from the Institute of American Indian Arts.
Before turning to fiction, she worked for 16 years as a police department photographer in Albuquerque, documenting crime scenes—experience that directly informed her debut novel.
Her filmmaking achievements include Emmy nomination, Sundance Native Lab Fellowship, Time-Warner Storyteller Fellowship, Tribeca All-Access Grant, and WGBH Producer Fellowship.
She has published a sequel, Exposure, released October 2024.
