Frank Dikötter is Chair Professor of Humanities at the University of Hong Kong and Professor of Modern History of China at SOAS, University of London.
Born in the Netherlands in 1961, he earned degrees in History and Russian from the University of Geneva and his PhD from SOAS in 1990.
His research has received over $1.5 million in grants.
He has published twelve influential books on modern China, including Mao's Great Famine (2010), named Book of the Year by multiple publications and longlisted for the Samuel Johnson Prize, and China After Mao (2022).
