Katherine (Kate) J. Boo is a staff writer at The New Yorker and former Washington Post reporter and editor.
She began her journalism career at Washington City Paper and later worked at The Washington Monthly.
Her reporting on disadvantaged communities has earned prestigious recognition including a Pulitzer Prize, MacArthur "Genius" grant, and National Magazine Award for Feature Writing.
For the past decade, she has divided her time between the United States and India, her husband Sunil Khilnani's birthplace.
Her debut book, Behind the Beautiful Forevers: Life, Death, And Hope In A Mumbai Undercity, was published in 2012, drawing on years of immersive research in Mumbai's Annawadi slum.
