Count Baldassare Castiglione was a prominent Italian diplomat, courtier, and soldier during the Renaissance period.
Born in Casatico, he served at various Italian courts, particularly the court of Urbino.
In 1528, he published Il Cortegiano (The Book of the Courtier), which became one of the most influential works of the Renaissance.
The book addressed questions of etiquette, morality, and proper conduct in 16th-century European court circles.
Castiglione's work profoundly shaped European conceptions of the ideal gentleman and courtly behavior, spreading Italian Renaissance cultural ideals throughout the continent and influencing generations of aristocratic education and social refinement.
