Ann Patchett was born in Los Angeles, California, and later moved to Nashville, Tennessee at age six, which remains her beloved home.
She attended St. Bernard Academy before studying at Sarah Lawrence College, where she trained under notable authors including Grace Paley and Russell Banks.
She furthered her education at the Iowa Writers' Workshop and the Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown, where she wrote her debut novel, The Patron Saint of Liars.
In 2010, Patchett co-founded Parnassus Books in Nashville, and in 2012 was named one of TIME magazine's 100 most influential people in the world.
Her latest novel is Whistler.
