He is renowned for his theory of structuration and his comprehensive analysis of modern societies.
A prolific author of at least 34 books published in 29 languages, he ranked fifth among the most-referenced humanities authors in 2007.
His career spans three stages: redefining sociology's foundations, developing structuration theory, and examining modernity, globalization, and politics.
He currently serves as Emeritus Professor at the London School of Economics.
