He earned a Bachelor of Arts from Wheaton College in 1939, followed by a Bachelor of Theology from Westminster Theological Seminary in 1942.
He furthered his studies at Yale Divinity School, receiving a Master of Sacred Theology in 1944, and was later awarded a Doctor of Divinity from Wheaton College in 1966.
