Nick Land was a lecturer in Continental Philosophy at the University of Warwick (1987-1998), where he co-founded the Cybernetic Culture Research Unit (CCRU) with Sadie Plant.
This interdisciplinary group blended futurism, philosophy, mysticism, numerology, and science fiction into experimental conceptual production.
Land participated in Virtual Futures conferences, infamous for unconventional presentations including lying on the ground "croaking into a mic" over jungle music.
He published The Thirst for Annihilation (1992) and numerous shorter texts compiled in Fanged Noumena (2011).
Land pioneered "hyperstition"—self-fulfilling prophetic ideas that bring about their own reality.
After resigning from academia, he later taught at the New Centre for Research & Practice until 2017.
