Sylvain Neuvel
Sylvain Neuvel has led a remarkably varied life before becoming an author.
He left high school at 15 and pursued careers ranging from journalism to soil decontamination, ice cream sales, and furniture retail.
He earned a Ph.D. in linguistics from the University of Chicago, taught the subject in India, and worked as a software engineer in Montreal, also becoming a certified translator.
A self-described tinkerer with a passion for robotics and Halloween, Neuvel humorously admits his writing about aliens and giant robots is partly an excuse to build action figures, ostensibly for his son.
