Witold Rybczynski was born in Edinburgh to Polish parents, raised in London, and educated at Jesuit schools in England and Canada.
He studied architecture at McGill University in Montreal, where he also taught for two decades.
Currently the Martin and Margy Meyerson Professor of Urbanism at the University of Pennsylvania, he also co-edits the Wharton Real Estate Review.
A registered architect, Rybczynski has designed and built houses and conducted practical low-cost housing experiments across multiple countries, including Mexico, Nigeria, India, the Philippines, and China.
He is a celebrated writer dedicated to making architecture accessible to general audiences.
