Ellen Raskin
Ellen Raskin was a multi-talented artist and writer who made significant contributions to children's literature.
Born in Milwaukee during the Great Depression, she became known for her work as an author, illustrator, and designer.
Raskin's most famous work, The Westing Game, won the prestigious Newbery Medal in 1979.
She also designed book covers, including the first edition of A Wrinkle in Time.
Raskin married Dennis Flanagan, editor of Scientific American, in 1965.
Her career was cut short when she passed away in 1984 at the age of 56 due to complications from connective tissue disease.
