Ruth Wariner grew up in a polygamist Mormon colony in Mexico before leaving at age fifteen.
She moved to California, where she raised her three youngest sisters while pursuing her education.
Wariner earned her GED, completed college and graduate school, and became a high school Spanish teacher.
She currently resides in Portland, Oregon, with her husband and maintains close relationships with her siblings.
The Sound of Gravel is Wariner's debut book, drawing from her experiences growing up in a polygamist family and her journey to build a new life for herself and her sisters.
