Sarah Hall studied English and Art History at Aberystwyth University before completing an MLitt in Creative Writing at St Andrews, where she also taught.
Beginning as a poet, she transitioned into fiction with her debut novel Haweswater (2002), which won the Commonwealth Writers Prize for Best First Book.
Her second novel, The Electric Michelangelo (2004), was shortlisted for the Man Booker Prize.
Her subsequent novel, The Carhullan Army (2007), won the John Llewellyn-Rhys Memorial Prize and was shortlisted for the Arthur C. Clarke Award.
She currently lives in North Carolina.
