Walter Scheidel
Walter Scheidel is the Dickason Professor in the Humanities and Professor of Classics and History at Stanford University, where he also serves as a Kennedy-Grossman Fellow in Human Biology.
Based in Palo Alto, California, he has authored or edited sixteen books and published extensively on premodern social and economic history, demography, and comparative history.
His research spans ancient societies to contemporary issues, examining inequality, state formation, and human welfare through transdisciplinary approaches.
Scheidel is particularly interested in bridging the humanities, social sciences, and life sciences, bringing rigorous historical analysis to understanding long-term patterns in human civilization and economic structures.
