Key Takeaways

1. Let Go of Your Worries to God.

Would you believe that the answer to all your problems is found in letting them go?

Worry strangles supply. Our world's frantic pace, driven by constant demands and disruptions, leads to widespread stress, worry, and anxiety. These aren't just emotions; they are destructive forces that can manifest as chronic illnesses, depression, and unhealthy coping behaviors. Stress chokes God's supply of favor, wisdom, and success in our lives.

Casting cares is powerful. Letting go of worries isn't irresponsible; it's the most powerful action you can take. It acknowledges your limitations and trusts in God's unlimited ability. Casting all your anxieties on Him, once and for all, is possible because He cares for you with deepest affection and watches over you carefully.

Worry is unproductive. Jesus asked, "Which of you by worrying can add one hour to his life’s span?" Worrying cannot change any situation and is detrimental to health, potentially shortening life. Releasing worries allows God's abundant supply, purchased by Christ's finished work, to flow unhindered into every area, from health and finances to relationships.

2. Trust God's Provision: You Are More Valuable Than Birds or Lilies.

Are you not of more value than they?

God feeds the birds. Jesus points to the birds of the air, who neither sow nor reap, yet are fed by our heavenly Father. This illustrates the carefree life God intends for us. Worry is a snare the enemy uses to trap us, hindering God's grace flow. Dwelling in the secret place of the Most High delivers us from this snare.

He clothes the lilies. Jesus also highlights how God clothes the lilies of the field with a glory surpassing Solomon's attire. The "clothing" of flowers is their health. Divine health comes from God, not just human effort. If God cares for temporary grass and lilies, how much more will He care for you, His cherished child?

Your value is immense. God's valuation of you is seen in the price He paid: He did not spare His own Son but gave Him up for you. He loves you so much He numbers the hairs on your head. The degree to which we worry about provision is directly related to how much we believe we are loved and valued by our heavenly Father.

3. Stress Is Destructive; Rest Brings Quality Life and Health.

A sound heart is life to the body, but envy is rottenness to the bones.

Stress impacts health. Medical science confirms that chronic stress contributes to numerous health problems, including:

  • Anxiety and depression
  • Digestive issues
  • Headaches
  • Cardiovascular diseases
  • Sleep problems
  • Weight gain
  • Impaired memory and concentration
  • Suppressed immune system

Quality life and body. Jesus' teaching in Matthew 6 about not worrying about food or clothing is about experiencing a quality life and having a quality body. A quality body is more important than clothes, and a quality life is more important than food. Worrying hinders the abundant life Christ came to give.

Peace brings healing. Proverbs 14:30 reveals that a "sound heart" (marpe, meaning healing or cure) gives life to the body. A heart at peace is a healing heart. The Hebrew word for "heal" (rapha) is closely related to the word meaning "to relax" or "to let go" (raphah). Healing is tied to relaxing and letting go of worries.

4. Embrace the Unforced Rhythm of Rest and Grace.

Learn the unforced rhythms of grace.

World's frantic pace. Society often glorifies busyness and constant striving, leading to burnout and health issues. This frantic rhythm is unsustainable and contrary to God's design for us to run a marathon, not a sprint, living a long, good life.

Jesus offers real rest. Jesus invites all who labor and are heavy laden to come to Him for rest. This isn't just physical rest but rest for the soul – mind, emotions, and conscience. Keeping company with Him teaches us His unforced rhythms of grace, which are gentle, easy, and light.

Rest finds grace. The Hebrew word for rest, nuwach, is related to Noah's name, who "found grace." Rest finds grace. When we rest in God, He works on our behalf. This rest is not inactivity but activity directed by the Spirit of God, allowing us to be like the burning bush – burning strong but not burning out.

5. Rest Brings God's Commanded Blessings and Restful Increase.

Rest brings God’s commanded blessings!

Rest is holy. God Himself rested on the seventh day, blessing and sanctifying it. Rest is holy and essential. Under the Old Covenant, the Sabbath was a sign of God's sanctifying power and a time for rest, relationships, and worship. Under the New Covenant, Christ is our true Sabbath rest.

Rest before results. God's way is to begin in rest, work out of rest, and continue in His rest. This leads to restful increase, unlike the world's stressful increase gained through constant striving. The Israelites were promised commanded blessings and provision for three years if they let the land rest in the seventh year.

Timely provisions flow. When we choose to obey God and rest, He commands His blessings upon our careers, finances, families, and everything we touch. This means having more than enough. When we stop worrying and rest in God's provision, unexpected checks arrive, opportunities open, and needs are met supernaturally.

6. Have a Throne Attitude: Rest in Christ's Finished Victory.

Jesus is seated because the work is finished.

Seated with Christ. Psalm 110:1 shows the Father telling the Son to "Sit at My right hand, till I make Your enemies Your footstool." Jesus is seated because His work of redemption is finished. As the church, the body of Christ, we are raised up and seated with Him in heavenly places, far above all dominion and power.

Enemies becoming footstool. Jesus is waiting while God makes His enemies (disease, poverty, depression, etc.) His footstool. Since we are in Him, these enemies are also coming under our feet. Our attitude should be one of resting in Christ's finished victory, even in the presence of our enemies.

Rest in the midst of challenges. God prepares a table for us in the presence of our enemies. We don't have to wait for problems to be resolved before we rest. We can sit down and rest first, trusting that God is making our challenges our footstool. This goes against human logic but is God's way for us to see His salvation.

7. Guard Your Heart with God's All-Encompassing Peace (Shalom).

Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life!

Go into peace. Jesus told the woman healed of bleeding to "go into peace," not just "go in peace." He invited her to step into a realm of peace. This peace is His inheritance to us, not as the world gives, but a robust, stable peace unaffected by external factors, guarding our hearts and minds.

Shalom is all-encompassing. The Hebrew word for peace, shalom, means more than just peace of mind. It includes:

  • Welfare
  • Health
  • Prosperity
  • A state of untroubled, undisturbed well-being

His shalom is multiplied in our lives through the knowledge of God and Jesus.

Peace keeps what grace gives. Our heart is the gateway of our spirit. If our hearts are troubled by worries, His peace cannot flow out. Peace keeps everything that grace has given us. The enemy seeks to steal our peace because if we are full of care, he can devour us. Casting cares makes us "undevourable."

8. Find Settled Peace in Your Conscience Through Justification by Faith.

Until you have a settled peace in your conscience, you cannot freely receive what the Lord Jesus has purchased for you.

Condemnation hinders peace. A troubled conscience, burdened by guilt and condemnation, prevents us from freely receiving God's blessings. Many believers struggle with insecurity, believing they aren't good enough or have committed unpardonable sins.

Justified by faith. We are justified (made righteous, acquitted) by faith in Jesus' finished work, not by our own efforts or good works. When we received Christ, we received the gift of righteousness. This means God sees us as righteous based on Christ's sacrifice, not our performance.

Peace with God through Christ. Having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through Jesus. He broke down the wall of separation. We have full assurance that God is not angry with us. This peace is a gift, paid for by Christ's chastisement. The more we understand His finished work, the more settled our conscience becomes.

9. Stand Still and See the Salvation of the Lord.

Stand still, and see the salvation of the LORD, which He will accomplish for you today.

Trapped with no way out. Like the Israelites cornered by Pharaoh's army at the Red Sea, we can find ourselves in seemingly impossible situations with no escape. Our human instinct is to panic and try to fight or flee.

God fights for you. Moses told the terrified Israelites to "Stand still, and see the salvation of the LORD." When they stood still, God fought for them, separating the sea and destroying their enemies. Our part is to stand still inwardly, fix our eyes on Jesus (Yeshua, meaning salvation), and let Him fight our battles.

Rest in His provision. God's provision is practical and supernatural. He met the Israelites' needs in the wilderness (manna, water from rock). Our blessings are not dependent on the economy or our efforts but on Him. When we trust Him instead of "sweating it out," He provides exceedingly abundantly.

10. Hear and Meditate on the Word of Christ to Build Faith and Receive Miracles.

faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

Hearing builds faith. The Israelites failed to enter the promised land because the word they heard was not mixed with faith. Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ. God's chosen delivery system for salvation, healing, and miracles is the "foolishness of preaching" Christ.

Keep on hearing. Faith comes by hearing and hearing (present continuous tense), not just having heard. We need to continually expose ourselves to the word of Christ through sermons, devotionals, and reading the Bible. The enemy immediately tries to steal the Word sown in our hearts.

Miracles by hearing. Galatians 3:5 asks if God supplies the Spirit and works miracles by works of the law or by the hearing of faith. It's by the hearing of faith! The crippled man at Lystra heard Paul preaching the gospel of grace repeatedly, and faith to be healed was imparted, resulting in an instant miracle.

11. Meditation on God's Word Brings Success in Every Area.

whatever he does shall prosper.

Delight and meditate. Psalm 1 describes the blessed person like a tree planted by rivers of water, always fruitful and prosperous. The key is that their delight is in the law of the Lord, and they meditate on it day and night. Meditation (hagah) involves muttering or speaking the Word softly.

Preaching to yourself. When you meditate on God's Word, you are preaching to yourself, feeding your faith. Joshua 1:8 links meditating on the Book of the Law day and night with making your way prosperous and having good success. This applies holistically to all areas of life.

Ruminating on truth. Meditation is like a cow ruminating – chewing on the cud repeatedly to extract all nutrients. We can take a single verse and mutter it, turning it over in our minds and mouths throughout the day. This replaces worry with truth and drives out fear, causing His promises to overshadow negative facts.

12. Trust God for Days of Heaven in Your Family Life and Long Life.

That your days may be multiplied, and the days of your children, in the land which the LORD sware unto your fathers to give them, as the days of heaven upon the earth.

Days of heaven on earth. God promises that if we lay up His words in our hearts and teach them to our children (speaking of Jesus), our days and our children's days can be multiplied and be like days of heaven on earth. This promise covers our family life and longevity.

Invite Jesus into marriage. Marriages face immense pressure (finances, communication, stress). Human love runs out, but Jesus can turn water into wine, infusing marriages with supernatural love and joy. He is the essential "third party" in a threefold cord that is not easily broken. Trusting Him brings restoration and supply.

Surrender children to Jesus. Parenting stress is real, especially with wayward or challenged children. The greatest thing you can do is surrender them to Jesus. Like Jochebed putting Moses in the ark, placing children in Christ's hands saves them from destruction. Isaiah 54:13 promises children taught by the Lord will have great shalom (peace, health, welfare) because of Christ's finished work. Long life is also found in seeing Jesus in the Word.
