Caleb Carr was an American novelist and military historian born in Manhattan, where he spent much of his life on the Lower East Side.
The son of Lucien Carr, a prominent Beat generation figure and former UPI editor, he pursued academic studies at Kenyon College and New York University, graduating with a B.A. in military and diplomatic history.
Carr contributed regularly to MHQ: The Quarterly Journal of Military History and wrote extensively on military and political affairs.
His background in nonfiction and history deeply informed his richly detailed historical fiction writing.
