Eleanor Catton is a New Zealand author born in 1985 in Canada.
She spent her early years in Yorkshire before moving to New Zealand at age 13.
Catton studied English at the University of Canterbury and completed a Master's in Creative Writing at Victoria University of Wellington.
Her first novel, The Rehearsal, began as her master's thesis.
Catton holds an MFA from the Iowa Writers' Workshop and has taught creative writing at various institutions.
She gained international acclaim for The Luminaries, which won the Man Booker Prize in 2013, making her the youngest recipient of the award.
