에릭 번(Eric Berne)은 캐나다 출신의 정신과 의사로, 교류 분석(transactional analysis)을 개발한 인물이다.
1910년 몬트리올에서 에릭 레너드 번스타인(Eric Lennard Bernstein)으로 태어난 그는 1921년 아버지가 사망한 후 어머니에 의해 양육되었다.
번은 맥길 대학교를 졸업하고 1935년에 의학 박사(M.D., C.M.) 학위를 받았다.
예일 대학교에서 정신분석학을 공부하였고, 1943년에 이름을 에릭 번으로 변경하였다.
번의 경력은 제2차 세계 대전으로 중단되었으며, 그는 전쟁 중 육군 의무대에서 복무하며 소령 계급에 올랐다.
전쟁이 끝난 후, 그는 정신과 분야에서의 작업을 계속하였고, 교류 분석을 창안하고 다양한 필명으로 저술 활동을 하며 가장 잘 알려지게 되었다.
